Liverpool were unable to gather all three points against a spirited Manchester United side at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Reds were fantastic in the first half but were unable to continue their momentum in the succeeding half.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were ahead in the first half by courtesy through a goal by Luis Diaz. However, they sprung several chances in the first half even after 16 shots on goal compared to United’s zero.
Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah were very active in the first 45 minutes but were not clinical upfront. Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho had the ball in the net for United in the very first minute of the game.
However, he was said to be offside. After that opportunity, Erik ten Hag’s men barely created any chance and were sitting back in their half.
The second half showed an entirely different scenario with Liverpool playing loosely at the back. Centre-back Jarell Quansah passed the ball straight to Bruno Fernandes and the midfielder hit a shot from 50 yards out catching Kelleher out of position.

The United star levelled the scoreline and it ignited the home side. Marcus Rashford and Garnacho also had chances of their own and their attempts were saved by the Liverpool keeper.
Youngster Kobbie Mainoo stunned the visitors in the 67th minute. He teamed up well with Garnacho and Aaron Wan-Bissaka before hitting the return pass in the top corner.
The Reds answered back via Salah’s penalty goal in the 84th minute. Wan-Bissaka fouled Harvey Elliott in the box and the Egyptian winger made no mistake converting from the spot.

Several yellow cards were shown to United players as they tried in every possible way to stop the Reds’ players from getting a sight on goal. In the end, both teams were able to grab only one point and Liverpool have now lost their top spot to Arsenal.
The Gunners are level on points with Klopp’s side but they have a better goal difference. They need to come up with a stern response in their next match if they want to keep hold of this title race.
What did Klopp say after the match (as quoted by Sky Sports):
“We should have won the game – that’s clear. We caused a few problems for ourselves. We controlled the game, scored first and should have had other goals.”
“You always have to take different things from the game. I know the outside world will get nervous but we have to be calm – it’s going to be full of life, excitement and desire.”
“The goals we have scored have got us where we are. We need to build on that. We’ll deal with that in the right way. I’m not over the moon but it’s okay. You take what you get. If we were more clinical then we could have won here.”
