Wolves Boss Gary O’Neil Tipped To Replace Jurgen Klopp At Liverpool

Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney has backed Wolves coach Gary O’Neil to succeed manager Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool amid strong links to Anfield.

O’Neil earned a lot praise for his clever work with his current club at the start of the season. He was still shockingly sacked by Bournemouth’s board.

The 40-year-old helped the Cherries maintain their momentum in the league after a disastrous start to the season.

His work hasn’t gone unnoticed at the Molineux and reports claim that 20-time English Champions Manchester United are looking to recruit him as part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff.

However, Deeney believes Liverpool should go after the former West Ham player to replace Erik ten Hag.

While talking to talkSport, he said:

“I’m going to throw a name at you – I think [Liverpool] need a coach next year more than a manager, so I’m going to say Gary O’Neil. I think it could be a team that needs a younger coach who’s used to working with younger players with not too much expectation to go and win the league.”

Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim and Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi are leading the managerial race and the Reds are seriously considering them as their leading options.

Klopp shocked the football world when he announced in January that he would be leaving Anfield this summer. It won’t be easy for any manager to fill in the shoes of the German legend.

O’Neil has done a fantastic job at Wolverhampton Wanderers. However he needs to prove whether he has the right qualities to suit this Liverpool setup. The manager needs to prove himself more before being handed such a huge responsibility.

The Reds squad can see several changes with a new manager at the helm. The Fenway Sports Group should avoid a downfall within the group by bringing in a coach who understands the team just like Klopp.

Only time will tell who is the ideal person to replace Klopp at Anfield.
