Mohamed Salah has provided an update on his contract talks with Liverpool with the star forward claiming his demands for a wage hike are not “crazy.
The Reds attacking mainstay is yet to renew his terms, which expire in the summer of 2023, with Salah holding out on an improved offer to come his way from the Anfield board.
Speculation, however, has been raging as the 29-year-old Salah heads into the final 18 months of his current contract on Merseyside despite Jurgen Klopp pushing for his talisman to put pen on paper on a new long-term deal.
Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have been credited with a strong interest in the Liverpool forward’s signature who despite the rumour mongering has asserted that he remains keen on staying put in England’s top flight beyond the summer.
In an interview with the GQ Magazine, Salah sounded out a major hint on his contract standoff as he admitted that he had not committed to extended terms owing to Liverpool’s offer falling short of his expectations.
“I want to stay, but it’s not in my hands. It’s in their hands.
“They know what I want. I’m not asking for crazy stuff. The thing is when you ask for something and they show you they can give you something because they appreciate what you did for the club.
“I’ve been here for my fifth year now. I know the club very well. I love the fans. The fans love me. But with the administration, they have [been] told the situation. It’s in their hands.”
