Montpellier express interest in signing Loris Karius for a £6 million fee

Liverpool FC outcast Loris Karius is subject to interest from Ligue 1 side Montpellier. According to recent reports, the French club are eyeing a move for the German goalkeeper this summer. The Reds are believed to value Karius at £6 million amid interest in the shot-stopper form other sides.

Besiktas had also been reported to have expressed interest in signing the 27-year old Karius. The German had spent two seasons on loan at the Turkish side, however, had terminated his contract in between his second spell. Citing problems with Besiktas’s management, Karius had sought to return to Anfield.

The Reds’ goalkeeper had been ridiculed for his performance against Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League final. Two of Karius’ errors gifted the Spanish giant’s opportunities to score which were capitalized upon by the Los Blancos. The German was subject to severe criticism for his performance that night by fans and pundits alike.

Jurgen Klopp shortly thereafter decided to sign a world-class goalkeeping talent in Alisson Becker for the Merseyside giants. Upon the Brazilian’s arrival, Karius was shipped on a two-season long loan to Besiktas. The German did, however, perform exceptionally well in his first season at the Turkish club, earning plaudits from Besiktas’s supporters.

Earlier this year, Karius had voiced his desire of making a return to Jurgen Klopp’s squad next season. The German had admitted to still being hopeful of playing in the Liverpool FC colors following the backlash against him after the Champions League final fiasco.

However, the 27-year old had stated that he would be open to leaving the Reds for more first-team opportunities elsewhere. Karius is highly unlikely to start for Liverpool FC next season ahead of Alisson Becker, who is one of the best goalkeepers in the world at the moment.

The Reds’ £6 million valuation of Karius could mean that a number of clubs express interest in signing the German. Hertha Berlin too had reportedly mulled over a decision to make an offer for the 27-year old Karius. However, it is up to the goalkeeper to decide whether to stay at Liverpool FC or seal a move away from Anfield
