Naby Keita reports back to training after testing negative for COVID-19

Naby Keita has returned to first-team training at Liverpool FC’s Melwood facility, confirmed boss Jurgen Klopp in a chat with the club’s official website.

The 25-year old had tested positive for COVID-19 while on international duty with the Guinea squad and had been forced to miss the 2-2 draw with Everton after being put in self-isolation. However, Klopp’s recent remarks to Liverpool FC’s official website might suggest that Keita could be in contention to play Liverpool FC’s upcoming fixture against Ajax in the Champions League.

“Naby trained yesterday, so that’s very positive. We are still learning, we are all learning. about these kind of things when a boy is completely without symptoms, which Naby was.

“He looked very good yesterday in training, to be honest. But I don’t know how he looks today, how he reacted – that’s much more important then. So, we will see. In the moment, I would probably rather expect him to be involved but I don’t know it.”

Keita’s return to the first-team fold at Anfield would come as a massive boost to the Premier League champions, who have already lost key players in Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk to injuries of late, with the latter being sidelined for possibly the entire season due to an ACL tear.

With Thiago Alcantara’s match fitness for the game against Ajax requiring a late call to made by the Merseyside club, Keita could be in line to start the game at the Johan Cruyff Arena, should Klopp make such a decision.
