Naby Keita pulled out from international duty with COVID-19 positive scare

Recent reports from Goal have suggested that Liverpool FC No.8 Naby Keita may have tested positive for COVID-19 whilst on international duty with the Guinea national team camp.

Ahead of Guinea’s upcoming friendly fixture against Gambia, Keita and four of his teammates have been put into self-isolation to prevent the spread of the virus to the rest of the squad. The reports indicate that Keita’s test was taken on Monday, and the result which was declared on Friday confirmed the player being positive for the coronavirus.

If the reports are believed to be true, the 25-year old midfielder becomes the fourth Liverpool FC first-team member to test positive for COVID-19 after Thiago Alcantara, Sadio Mane, and Xherdan Shaqiri, however, the latter’s initial test report was later confirmed to be a false positive.

Keita will be forced to miss the Reds upcoming Premier League fixture against arch-rivals Everton this Saturday, as Jurgen Klopp’s side are due to visit Goodison Park for the season’s first Merseyside Derby.
