Liverpool have tied down last season’s breakout star Nat Phillips to extended terms at Anfield with the central defender signing a new long-term deal on deadline day.
The contract extension announcement took many by surprise considering that Phillips’ future on Merseyside had been subject to much speculation in this summer’s transfer window with clubs looking to prize away his signature from Liverpool.

Reports from Liverpool’s official website, however, confirm that the 24-year-old has agreed upon an improved deal at Anfield on the back of his influential campaign with the first-team ranks last time around.
Phillips was handed an extended run of game time last season owing to the injury crisis faced by Jurgen Klopp’s side and the player stepped up when needed the most to keep the Merseyside giants in the running for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Over the course of this summer, there had been the talk of a four-way contest across England’s top-flight division with the likes of Brighton and Burnley being credited with an interest in landing Phillips with Liverpool open to letting him leave.
