Nat Phillips backed to exit Liverpool before the transfer window closes this summer

James Pearce reckons last season’s Anfield hero Nat Phillips will end up leaving Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool camp before the summer transfer window’s deadline later this month.

Phillips has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer with a four-way contest claimed to be underway amongst the Premier League clubs who have registered an interest in signing the central defender.

Despite his solid run of form for the Merseysiders towards the backend of the 2020-21 campaign which helped Klopp’s men secure a top-four finish, the return of Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip to the fold means Phillips falls down the pecking order once again.

Moreover, Liverpool’s only business so far this summer in the transfer market has seen them bring in the highly-rated Ibrahima Konate to shore up their options at the back.

In a Q&A for The Athletic, Pearce claimed that Liverpool are yet to receive a suitable bid for allowing Phillips to leave but he does expect the player to head out the exit door before the transfer window slams shut.

“Still no suitable offers on the table.”

“I’m still expecting him to leave before the window shuts.”
