Liverpool defender Nathanial Clyne could be given an opportunity to revive his career in the winter transfer window as Cardiff City seem interested in the English right back.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is currently looking like the only challengers for the Premier League title along with Manchester City as they sit 2nd in the Premier League, two points behind the leaders. Things are looking good for the Merseyside club but some players are likely to leave Liverpool in the January transfer window due to limited opportunities at football.
Nathanial Clyne is one player who has been kept out of the side due to the prominent rise of young defenders Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander Arnold over the past few months. Alexander Arnold was absolutely brilliant for Liverpool last season when they reached the finals of the Champions League and grabbed his opportunity with both hands after an injury to Clyne, who is set to be allowed to leave the club.
Even Joe Gomez is preferred ahead of Clyne in the right back spot, though the 21-year-old is a natural central defender. This has pushed Clyne further down the pecking order and a move away from Anfield in January seems on the cards.
Clyne’s only appearance this season came in a 2-1 League Cup loss to Chelsea and the 27-year-old has found it difficult to make it back into the match day squad as well. As an accomplished defender in the Premier League and an England international, Neil Warnock is prepared to make a move for Clyne in the January transfer market.
Cardiff City is sitting 18th in the Premier League and is facing relegation unless there is a turnaround soon. Clyne can add some stability to Cardiff’s back line and a loan move could be the answer for both clubs as Clyne has played under Neil Warnock during the duo’s time at Crystal Palace. The only stumbling block remains the wage demands by Clyne although that is in the process of being negotiated.
I still think that a loan move for Clyne should not be accepted by Liverpool because he is a good defender and Klopp may need his services this season as the club is competing for major honors.
