Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool Preview, Team News, Key Battle and Prediction | Premier League

Liverpool will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce when they face Nottingham Forest in Saturday afternoon’s showdown at the City Ground.

Jurgen Klopp’s Merseysiders picked up their second win in four days when they edged past West Ham United in a tightly contested affair at Anfield which was settled through Darwin Nunez’s first half header.

Jarrod Bowen came close to levelling the game for his side who were awarded a spot kick before half time but Alisson Becker stood his ground to deny the winger and secure the three points for the home side Liverpool.

With the Reds now sitting seventh in the league standings after a couple of great displays at Anfield, optimism would be high in the Liverpool camp ahead of locking horns with the league’s new boys Nottingham Forest over the coming weekend.

Steve Cooper’s Forest punched above their weight to hold top-table side Brighton to a 0-0 draw on the South Coast midweek but Forest’s position in the league remains a subject of concern with newly promoted outfit at the foot of the table with just one win to boast from their opening 11 games.

Liverpool would be expected to keep up their recent winning streak on their travels to the City Ground come Saturday lunchtime with Klopp’s men poised for another resilient showing to clinch the three points up for grabs.

TEAM NEWS

The visitors have no fresh concerns on the injury front to worry about after Trent Alexander-Arnold returned to the XI last time around to replace James Milner in the right-back role.

Diogo Jota’s setback means that the Portugal attacker has now been sidelined until after the upcoming FIFA World Cup with the calf injury he sustained in the win over Manchester City last weekend.

Naby Keita along with centre-back duo Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate are out of contention too while winger Luis Diaz works on his recovery from a knee injury.

KEY BATTLE

Emmanuel Dennis vs Darwin Nunez

Ex-Watford frontman Emmanuel Dennis has often caused trouble for Liverpool defences in the past and with the player likely to earn a starting berth for Forest on Saturday, the Reds would be hoping to keep him in check.

Liverpool’s record signing Darwin Nunez scored his first goal at Anfield last time in the win over West Ham and the 23-year-old will look to add to his recent rich vein of form in front of the goal to climb up the charts after an indifferent start to life on Merseyside.

Nottingham Forest’s backline has been in shambled of late and Nunez, joined by Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah up top on the pitch, would be on course to keep the goals coming for Liverpool.

MATCH PREDICTION

The visiting Liverpool side are tipped as the strong favourites to come out on top from the upcoming outing away at basement side Nottingham Forest much to the delight of the Anfield faithful who have seen their team endure a shaky period of results early on in the season.
