Manchester City’s manager Pep Guardiola is clinging on to win his 4th title in a row but the Spanish coach is being concerned with Liverpool’s relentless form.
Jurgen Klopp’s side has been firing since the turn of the 2022 year following their unbeaten run in the English top-flight since January.
The former Barcelona manager, on the other hand, was asked if he believes the title battle will be decided by points scored rather than goal difference.
Guardiola claimed in his pre-game against the Yorkshire side interview that he is well aware of the Reds’ rising performances and that the team carrying the Premier League trophy will win by a whisker.
“I don’t think that is going to happen. It could but I don’t think so. The difference is one point. If we draw and they win, [Liverpool are ahead]. Of course, if we can score as many goals as possible, I encourage Newcastle to score as many goals as possible!”
If Klopp’s men beat Newcastle on Saturday, they will be ahead of Man City, as Guardiola’s side will be on the road to Leeds, a couple of hours later than Liverpool’s game.
Having said that the Merseyside could be in pole position as they have a four-goal advantage over the Mancunians.
The German manager has committed to his long-term future at Anfield after extending his contract for two more years until 2026.
As the two English heavyweights showcase their desperations to triumph in the top flight, excitement for the final month of the league is duly on the cards.
It is now up to the North-West side to avoid collapsing in their upcoming fixture list, with the odds of Liverpool’s victory over Newcastle on the line.
