Liverpool FC’s attempted pursuit of World Cup-winning attacker Kylian Mbappe could take a massive hit as Paris Saint-Germain Nasser Al Khelaifi confirmed speculation that the Ligue 1 champions had opened contract talks with both Mbappe and Neymar.
With the 22-year-old Frenchman’s current deal with the 2019-20 Champions League runners-up running until the summer of 2022, there had been considerable doubt over the forward extending his stay at the Parc des Princes with the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool understood to be keen on making a move for him,
However, Khelaifi’s recent remarks, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo, do throw light on PSG’s eagerness to tie down Mbappe to a long-term stay at the French club as UEFA Champions League glory continues to be the pivotal source of importance for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
“We’ve opened talks to keep Mbappe and Neymar.
“I’m confident because they want to stay here.”
Mbappe so far has remained quiet over the furore surrounding his future in the PSG colours, as Liverpool FC’s tie-up with Nike earlier this year fueled speculation that the Merseysiders were looking to intensify their approach for the France international next summer.
