Liverpool and Arsenal could be set to battle each other for the signing of the highly-rated Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio, according to reports from Don Balon.
The Spanish international has found his place in Zinedine Zidane’s Madrid lineup to be under severe threat since the turn of the year, and the La Liga giants could be tempted to part ways with the 24-year-old in the summer of 2021.
Asensio’s dip in form of late would not prevent buyers in the transfer market for making a move for the Spaniard, reports suggest, with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool FC being one among a number of top European clubs wanting to sign the player.
Arsenal too are understood to be equally interested in acquiring Asensio to solve the lack of creative depth in the Gunners’ midfield department, which is a major reason behind Mikel Arteta’s men sitting at 14th spot in the Premier League standings.
Liverpool FC’s resolve to defy the seemingly high price-tag being demanded by Real Madrid will be tested to the fullest as Zidane is believed to be keen on losing Asensio next summer on a cut-price deal, coupled with the fact that the Reds shelled out big money this past summer on bringing Diogo Jota to Anfield.
