The Reasons Why James Milner Should Be Handed A New Contract

Liverpool will be making a grave mistake if they are not able to offer veteran midfielder James Milner a contract extension with his current one expiring in less than 12 months.

The Reds enjoyed a stunning season last term as they recorded the most points ever since the club was formed back in 1892 as they racked up 97 points. However, it was still not enough to secure the Premier League title as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City pipped the title by just one solitary point.

But it was not all doom and gloom for Jurgen Klopp’s side as they tasted Champions League success by bringing back the European trophy to Anfield for the sixth time in the clubs illustrious history. One player who has been tremendous to Liverpool’s growth over the past few seasons has been midfield workhorse, James Milner.

Milner arrived at Liverpool back in the summer of 2015 from Manchester City on a free transfer and his CV has glossed that he has won plenty of major honors along with playing for many high profile clubs. But the 33-year-old star midfielder dropped some cryptic news with his latest comments when he revealed that Liverpool will not be doing anything about his contract situation which expires next summer.

The Englishman has been a wonderful servant to Liverpool whenever called upon and even during last season’s Champions League run to the final, Milner notched up a record nine assists in the elite competition. Milner provides a suitable option in midfield through the middle or on either of the flanks as well. He is a renowned penalty taker and his never say die attitude makes him a leader on the pitch.

It is understood that one of the main reasons why Liverpool are not interested in offering Milner a new contract is because he is already 33 and that is understandable. But his versatility on the pitch and experience makes Milner a key component to Klopp’s unit.
