Reds focus upon giving new contracts to Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson Becker

Liverpool FC are planning to initiate discussions with their star players Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson Becker over new contracts as the Premier League side seeks to keep both players at the club for the foreseeable future. The Reds’ failure to secure the signing of Timo Werner, who is all set to join Chelsea FC in the coming weeks, has compelled the runaway Premier League leaders to secure the future stay of their present star players.

Van Dijk and Alisson both have been a rock at the back for the Reds over the past two seasons, helping their side win the 2019 UEFA Champions League as well as the Super Cup and Club World Cup. The current season has seen Liverpool FC asserting their dominance far and wide in the Premier League and securing the first position in the league table with comfort. The Reds enjoy a 25 point lead over second-placed Manchester City and require just two wins out of their remaining nine games to wrap up the season and secure the Premier League title, a laurel which has awaited by the Reds supporters for 30 years.

The Reds feel that offering a new contract to both Van Dijk and Alisson Becker, which would extend their stay further at Anfield is certainly a top priority for the club. Both the players have been instrumental in reviving Liverpool FC’s fortunes and revitalizing the team through solving their previous defensive issues.

Van Dijk signed for the Reds in January 2018 for £75million, a then world-record fee paid for a defender and Alisson joined shortly with the Brazilian goalkeepers transfer going through in July for a sum of £65m, a record fee paid at the time for a goalkeeper.

Van Dijk’s current deal with the Reds runs until 2023 and Alisson is contracted to the Merseyside club till 2024. Jurgen Klopp will be keen on extending their stay at the club for some more time as he strives to take the Liverpool FC squad to greater heights and win more trophies in the years to come.
