Jordan Henderson hailed Liverpool FC’s dramatic yet late victory over Tottenham Hotspurs in Wednesday’s league fixture at Anfield, with the skipper admitting that the 2-1 win could have been the Merseysider’s best performance of the ongoing season.
As the game appeared to be heading towards a 1-1 stalemate following first-half strikes from either team, a 90th-minute header into the top corner of the net from Roberto Firmino secured the much-deserved win for Jurgen Klopp’s men, sending them to the top of the Premier League table with three points clear off Spurs.
Speaking to the club’s official website in the aftermath of the game, Henderson appeared jubilant with the showing put in by the Champions of England, as the midfielder revealed that concentration was key towards the Reds edging out Spurs in a very close game.
“We just concentrate on keeping going until the whistle goes. We don’t think about records or outcomes, we’re here to win games and we don’t stop until the final whistle. Unfortunately at the weekend we didn’t manage to find a winner, today we did. So I’m delighted with the lads, I thought the performance was outstanding and deserved the three points.”
“I would say it was one of our best performances of the season, personally. With the ball, without the ball, the counter-press was really good, winning the ball back high up, relentless with the pressure. I’m over the moon, as you can see.”
Henderson’s showing against Spurs in the meeting between the two table-topping sides at Anfield on Wednesday was also subject to praise from the Liverpool FC fanbase, as the 30-year-old put in a tireless display in the centre of the park with his ability to control the tempo of the otherwise fast-paced match.
