Manchester United hero Rio Ferdinand believes that Aston Villa star playmaker Jack Grealish could have been a much better fit at Anfield than his current suitors in the transfer market Manchester City.
The Premier League holders are in line to table a big-money move for the highly-rated midfield maestro who is backed to call it quits at Villa Park in this summer’s transfer window.
Liverpool had been at one stage credited with an interest in signing Grealish from Aston Villa but it seems clear that with a fee worth £75 million being demanded by Dean Smith’s camp for their star first-teamer, it is Manchester City who have the financial backing to pull off the transfer deal.
Jurgen Klopp, meanwhile, remains on the hunt for midfield reinforcements of his own to fill a major void left in the centre of the park at Anfield by the outgoing Gini Wijnaldum who has since his exit made the move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Speaking on his FIVE Youtube channel, Ferdinand was of the opinion that Grealish’s arrival on Merseyside could have significantly bolstered Liverpool’s options up on the pitch owing to his creative influence when on the pitch.
“There aren’t many breathtaking footballers around anymore who produce breathtaking moments and make you go, ‘wow that was crazy’.
“Jack Grealish does that. He’s just a phenomenal player. If I’m Liverpool, I’m going to get him. If I’m Man City, I’m taking him.
“Because he improves them. He improves Chelsea, 100 per cent. Whoever’s got the money to pay for him, do it.
“If Liverpool bought him it would be a bolt out of the blue. He improves them and then it’s like, ‘wow’.”
