Ex-Reds legend believes the club wont regret missing out on signing Timo Werner

Reds legend Robbie Fowler has expressed his opinion on Liverpool FC missing out on signing Timo Werner with Chelsea FC securing the German’s transfer. The Reds were widely tipped to sign Werner, having opened initial discussions with RB Leipzig and the player himself reported to be favouring a move to the Merseyside.

However, a disagreement over the transfer fee halted Liverpool’s approach to sign the player and led to Chelsea FC finalizing a deal for the German international. In the light of these events, Fowler has stated that he does not believe Werner is good enough for the current Liverpool FC squad.

Fowler, who is considered a legend at Anfield for his goalscoring prowess during his time at Liverpool FC, stated that despite Werner being a very talented striker at his age, the player did not match the ability of the current attacking trio of Liverpool FC in Mohammad Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino.

Comparing Werner to the Reds attackers who have taken the club to great heights over the past three seasons, Fowler voiced his opinion regarding Werner’s quality, saying that the RB Leipzig forward was not on the same level as of the Liverpool FC’s current front three.

Fowler further stated that there had been a tremendous amount of speculation regarding the future of Timo Werner in recent months, with many clubs such as Fowler’s former team Liverpool FC as well as PSG and Bayern Munich having an interest in buying the player.

However, the ex-Reds player said that he did not understand the hype surrounding Werner and the upset Liverpool FC fans who are not pleased with their side’s management for pursuing the transfer. Fowler said that on watching the German play, he did not note his considerable influence on the game, despite the player’s certain qualities seeming admirable to the former England international.

Despite his remarks on Werner, Fowler has admitted that his opinion may be proved wrong if the German forward manages to set the Premier League on fire with his performances for Chelsea next season. The player has enjoyed a terrific season this year in the Bundesliga, racking up 25 goals in 29 appearances. It remains to be seen whether Werner would be able to replicate such a hot run of form while playing in the Premier League next season.
