Ex-Rangers chairman Dave King has hinted that Steven Gerrard could be tempted to leave the Glasgow -based outfit if a chance to manage Liverpool FC comes by, however, added that the ex-Red is likely to remain in the manager’s hot seat at the Ibrox for the near future.
Gerrard remains Liverpool FC’s fans most favourable choice to replace the incumbent boss Jurgen Klopp should the German seek an exit from Anfield when his current deal comes to an end in 2024.
Klopp has led the Merseysiders to trophy-laden success over the past few seasons, bringing the Premier League title to Anfield after a 30-year gap. However, the former Dortmund boss has so far been reluctant to commit his future to Liverpool FC beyond 2024, amid a huge clamour in Klopp’s homeland of Germany for him to take over the reins as the national team boss.
In a recent interview, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo, King admitted that it would be difficult for Gerrard to resist an offer from the legendary midfielder’s old club, but the ex-England international is most likely to stay put at Rangers for the time being.
“I think it’s [Gerrard’s leaving Ibrox] inevitable, I guess, that there will be suitors but I certainly get no sense from Steven that he has any intention of leaving Rangers anytime soon.
“He’s not the type of person – as I understand it – that is going to be flattered by money. I think Steven is trying to do the right thing for himself, for his career.
“I don’t think Steven, he’ll speak for himself, but in my experience of him, I don’t think he’d think the job would be done even winning one title this year.
“I think he’d want to cement that with one or two years more and maybe have a go at the Champions League.
“In my view, Steven sees himself as being at Rangers for the next couple of years and I don’t see him being tempted away, barring one club, and I don’t think that opportunity is available shortly.”
Gerrard’s managerial reign at Rangers has been subject to widespread praise of late, with the Ibrox-based side sitting on top of the league standings, besides going through the group stage of the UEFA Europa League.
