Teun Koopmeiners opens up on Liverpool’s interest in signing him

Dutch midfielder Teun Koopmeiners has admitted he is flattered by Liverpool’s interest in signing him but remains committed to Atalanta.

Koopmeiners was an influential performer for the Holland side in last year’s FIFA World Cup during the country’s run to that quarter-final thriller against the eventual champions Argentina.

With the Reds on the hunt for a fresh pair of legs to reinforce their midfield ranks after Jurgen Klopp’s side failed to hit the ground running consistently this season, Koopmeiners is rumoured to be one of the names on Liverpool’s wishlist.

The 24-year-old midfielder plays for Serie A club Atalanta who are in contention for a top four spot in the league table which could signal their disinterest in allowing Koopmeiners to leave in the current transfer window.

According to a report from The Guardian, the player has been quoted commenting on Liverpool keeping tabs on him as he sounded out no intention of making the move to Anfield before the January window deadline.

“I saw the links and stories about Liverpool.

“Nice to see that but I’m 100% focused on Atalanta, I’m so happy to play here.”
