Thiago Alcantara faces race against time to be fit for the Champions League final

Thiago Alcantara faces race against time to be fit for the Champions League final with the Liverpool midfielder limping off the pitch on Sunday in the 3-1 win over Wolves.

The Spain international made the XI on the final day of the league campaign for Jurgen Klopp’s men and was instrumental in setting up Sadio Mane’s leveller after Pedro Neto had given the visitors an early lead.

An Achilles problem, however, forced the maestro to be brought off at half time with the veteran James Milner coming on to play the closing 45 minutes of a game that was won by the home side with late goals from Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson.

Thiago, meanwhile, was subject to further assessment on his injury trouble in the aftermath of the game, according to a report from The Athletic, with the Spaniard’s availability for the Champions League final in Paris later this week hanging in the balance.

Jurgen Klopp would be counting heavily on Thiago’s return to the Anfield fold ahead of the Real Madrid showdown with the Reds boss also sweating over the fitness levels of Fabinho who has been sidelined since the 2-1 win against Aston Villa.
