Even as Chelsea lost to Liverpool on Penalties. Following Liverpool’s triumph, we evaluate three talking points favoring Liverpool in regards to the Super Cup game.

Liverpool Reign Supreme

Liverpool beat Chelsea 5-4 on penalties as they converted all their five penalties in the shoot. It’s a massive boost ahead of the away trip to the St. Mary stadium as Liverpool face Southampton at the weekend on Sunday. The Reds hoisted the Super Cup trophy after they missed out on the Community Shield title to rivals Manchester City on penalties. This sees Liverpool reign as European King as they’ve conquered entire Europe after the victory over Frank Lampard’s Chelsea as the Blues were Champions of the Europa League.

Adrian The Hero for Liverpool

Liverpool might have lost the Community Shield but with Adrian, they were able to lift the Super Cup trophy in Istanbul, Turkey. There were fears from the Reds side as they lost Allison Becker to injury prior to the Super Cup clash against Chelsea as the Brazilian goalkeeper limped off in the first half following the 4-1 win at home to Norwich City. All those fears were laid to bed as Adrian stood well in goal making a couple of saves especially the one from Mason Mount while also denying Tammy Abraham the chance to extend the Shoot-out to sudden death as he emerged the match hero even ahead of Sadio Mane who scored a brace following his introduction to the starting line up.

Sadio Mane’s Masterstroke

The Senegalese forward once again proved his class and contribution to the Liverpool faithful. His first goal was an easy tap in but how about the second one which was world-class by all standard as he grabbed his brace in exemplary fashion. Mane was exceptional for the Reds even as he deserved credit for the first goal since he was well placed to connect with center forward Roberto Firmino for the equalizer while also showing much desire to make things happen on the pitch to his side advantage. This is the mark of a great player and a boost to his manager as Liverpool hopes for more from the player with the visit to St. Mary Stadium on the weekend.
