Villareal 2-3 Liverpool: Match Report | Champions League

The Reds fans will be queuing up to book their tickets for Paris as Liverpool qualifies for another Champions League final as they beat Villareal by 3-2 on their home turf.

First Half

The home side sent shocking signals to Jurgen Klopp’s men after an early goal from Boulaye Dia gave a boost to their self-esteem at the start of the kick-off.

Capoue does brilliantly to beat Robertson and keeps that cross alive before Dia applied the finishing touch into the box to make it 1-0.

Capoue is on the headlines after a super inviting cross that was begging to be attacked the French midfielder delivers the second goal for his side.

Liverpool lost hold of their nerves and gave up another goal of the night from Francis Coquelin as the Frenchman levels the tie by 2-2 in the first 45 minutes.

Second Half

The scenes from the first leg at Anfield occurred again as Villareal faded away in the second half and showed their frailties in their penalty box.

Fabinho’s low shot from a tight angle via Rulli’s legs gave Merseyside a 3-2 aggregate lead.

Since then, the Scousers have been scoring at an alarming rate. Luiz Diaz, a January signing, gave them breathing room by burying his header beyond a hapless Rulli.

Sadio Mane beat Rulli and Foyth, the Senegalese rolled the ball into an empty net, and the yellow submarine’s goalie committed a third consecutive howler to end the game.

A perfect ten for Liverpool as the six-time European Champions book their place in the Champions League final for the tenth time as they wait to learn their opponents on the route to Paris tomorrow.

What’s Next: Liverpool will be heading back to England to prepare for another exciting encounter against Tottenham Hotspurs on Saturday in the Premier League.
