Virgil van Dijk faces race against time to be fit for this summer’s UEFA Euros

Virgil van Dijk is determined to turn out for the Holland national team in this summer’s UEFA Euros but could be in for a race against time to prove his fitness, according to reports from the Mirror.

The 29-year-old central defender has been on the sidelines since October 2020 with a season-ending ACL layoff and Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp had recently suggested that Van Dijk’s appearance in the Euros looked highly unlikely.

However, speculation is that the former Saints man is pushing to be included in the Oranje squad for the forthcoming continental tournament and that Klopp could raise concerns over his star defender risking his injury progress.

The Reds gaffer is understood to be harbouring a desire of welcoming Van Dijk to the first-team fold at Anfield just prior to the start of the new campaign in which the Merseysiders would seek to renew their title-winning credentials after a miserable slump this time around.

Holland’s first commitment in the UEFA Euros would be against Ukraine on June 13 and Van Dijk is adamant over being there on the pitch donning the captain’s armband.
