Words of encouragement from James Milner for Liverpool following loss to Manchester United

Liverpool FC have been urged to push harder for returning to some much-needed winning ways in domestic football by veteran first-team member James Milner in the aftermath of the Merseysiders’ losing to Manchester United over the weekend.

The defeat to the Old Trafford outfit on Sunday at Old Trafford meant that Jurgen Klopp’s side went crashing out of the FA Cup in the fourth-round meeting, adding to further worries for the Merseyside giants amid the backdrop of a drastic turn in form for the worst.

Just one win in their last seven outings has cast fears of Liverpool FC failing to secure even Champions League football for the next season as Klopp’s men could drop even further down the English top-flight order over the coming weeks.

Speaking to the press after the game, Milner voiced hope for the near future in terms of Liverpool FC returning to their best as the ex-England international said that the players had shaken off their recent run of woeful form to turn out in a better state against Sunday’s opponents but failed to secure the result in their favour over the course of the 90 minutes at Manchester.

“Ultimately disappointment. It’s a cup game and the result is the only thing that matters in a cup game, so that’s disappointing,” said the 35-year-old midfielder, as quoted by the club’s official website.

“I think the boys can be proud of how they played. Disappointed to give away the goals we did, which could have been stopped.

“And obviously when results aren’t going your way, things that went your way before don’t seem to. That’s what we have to keep pushing, keep working hard, reacting the right way to disappointments.

“I think the boys did well today; they worked hard up front, created some good chances and I thought some of the play in the final third was a lot better today, we carved out some good chances.

“Ultimately today is a cup game, but hopefully it’s the first step of us getting back on a good run.”
