Xherdan Shaqiri believes Liverpool Can Get Better After Exceptional Year

Reds’ winger Xherdan Shaqiri believes that Liverpool has the potential to get even better after enjoying an “unbelievable year” in 2019 that included Champions League glory, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Merseyside giants were crowned as kings of Europe for a sixth time in the club’s illustrious history thanks to a 2-0 victory over domestic rivals Tottenham Hotspur in June.

Liverpool’s success in the Spanish capital helped ease the pain of narrowly missing out on the Premier League title against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

It was a second Champions League success for Swiss midfielder Shaqiri, who had previously lifted the trophy during his time with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, helping make amends following Liverpool’s defeat to Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League final.

In a recent interview with the club’s official website, the 29-year-old attacking midfielder reflected on the achievements of Jurgen Klopp’s squad in the previous season and admitted that the club can have the potential to get even better this season.

Shaqiri said that he had a fantastic debut season with the club last year and celebrating with titles with the fans was the icing on the cake, “It was an unbelievable year for us. It was a shame we didn’t win the league but it was amazing to get the Champions League title again for Liverpool, For me, the second time. You never forget these kinds of feelings, these kinds of trophies you win with the team. And to celebrate with the fans, after a long time they could celebrate something big in the city, was just amazing.”

Shaqiri went on to claim that the potential in the Liverpool team is quite high and reiterated Klopp’s statement about not being the finished article just yet, “The potential for this team is very high, I think we can go as high as possible. But we need to stay on our toes and to be at our highest level to be really very, very successful.”
