Xherdan Shaqiri poised to sign for Lyon in a £9.5 million worth deal

Liverpool have finally relented to the sale of Xherdan Shaqiri who is understood to be set to make the move to Lyon and sign a three-year-long contract.

Shaqiri had been long linked with a move away from Anfield in this summer’s transfer window after his fall down the first-team pecking order in Jurgen Klopp’s camp over the last couple of campaigns.

The arrival of Diogo Jota in a big-money move last summer meant that the new recruit was the go-to man for Klopp to fill in for the likes of Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane up top on the pitch across the 2020-21 season which meant fewer minutes on the pitch for Shaqiri.

Fabrizio Romano has sounded out that Lyon are nearing the completion of a much-anticipated deal to land the Swiss international winger from Liverpool who are in line to pocket a €12 million transfer fee.

Lyon had emerged the frontrunners in a previously widely-contested race to sign Shaqiri who had at one stage been heavily backed to make the move to the Serie A with Lazio credited with a strong interest in the player.
