Cagliari’s young central defender Sebastian Walukiewicz is a key target for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool who remain on the lookout for another defensive signing despite Ibrahima Konate’s arrival at Anfield earlier this summer.
The Frenchman signed for the Merseyside Reds in a long-term deal and is bound to give Klopp a solid option at the back to provide cover for the injury-prone likes of Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, both of whom sustained season-ending injuries across the previous campaign.
Reports from Italian news outlet Calciomercato suggest that the Liverpool boss has made the 21-year-old Poland international Walukiewicz a player to keep tabs on over the course of this summer’s transfer window.
Walukiewicz has emerged as one of the most exciting young defensive names in Serie A action and he featured in 19 top-flight outings last season for Cagliari with a commanding average of 1.4 tackles per game.
Amid the recent talk of last season’s unlikely hero Nat Phillips courting much attention from both within England and abroad, it is understood that Klopp will be eyeing further reinforcements should Phillips seal a move away from Anfield ahead of the upcoming campaign.
