Jamie Carragher has said that Liverpool’s midfield department needs a complete overhaul in the aftermath of a 3-1 defeat away at Brentford on Monday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men were far from their best in the league defeat to Thomas Franke’s high-flying Bees who shipped three goals past a toothless Liverpool backline that was left scrambling time and again.
Liverpool’s midfield players were once again under the scanner and Anfield great Jamie Carragher, while speaking to Sky Sports, has admitted that the Reds boss Klopp is in dire need of reinforcements to revamp the engine room at his disposal.
“It’s not a Jurgen Klopp team. And I want to know why because I can’t work it out. They have some great technical players coming through, but they don’t look like Jurgen Klopp players.
“They need a complete revamp in midfield. It’s like they’re trying to play the Jurgen Klopp way without Jurgen Klopp players.
“They’re now like a normal team in terms of the press, but they’re still playing that high line.
“We talk about Virgil van Dijk, he’s not been at his best, but no matter how good you are, you need protection from your midfield. If you don’t get protection you’ve got no chance.”
The Anfield giants have long been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s teenage sensation Jude Bellingham but a transfer is expected to materialise only in the summer with Dortmund refusing to green-light the move in the January window.
Bellingham has been brilliant for both club and country over the last year and a half and there is speculation doing the rounds that Liverpool are in pole position to snap up the English midfielder at the end of the season.
