Goalkeeper Adrian confirms he has already signed new Liverpool contract

Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has revealed that he is on the verge of signing a new contract, confirming his stay with the club for at least another season.

The announcement of departures for Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain surprised many as Adrian’s name was not included.

While his current contract expires on the same day as those players, there has been no confirmation of his departure.

Instead, discussions are underway for a contract extension, and manager Jurgen Klopp expressed optimism last month that an agreement would be reached.

Adrian has now revealed in an interview with The Athletic’s James Pearce, stating that talks for a new deal are “really close” to being finalized.

“I have a great relationship with the manager and the club. We’ve been in talks and we’re really close. I know the situation and my role in the squad.”

“Everyone wants to play and have minutes on the pitch, but you also need a big squad with good people who will commit everything every day in training.”

It is quite clear now that Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has committed to staying with the club amid speculation surrounding Caoimhin Kelleher’s future.

Although manager Jurgen Klopp has stated that Kelleher will remain unless an exceptional offer is received, the Irishman is expected to seek a move elsewhere. This suggests that Adrian is likely to remain as the third-choice goalkeeper.

Being the third-choice goalkeeper is a challenging role, as these players rarely even make the bench on matchdays. Despite this, Adrian’s contract extension indicates his willingness to stay and fulfill the duties associated with this position.

Liverpool is anticipated to offer new contracts to other players this summer, including decisions about the futures of Joel Matip and Thiago, who have one year remaining on their current deals.

Talks regarding a contract extension with right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold are also likely to take place. His current contract expires in 2025.
