Adrian insists he does not want to leave Liverpool FC in the summer

Second-choice Liverpool FC goalkeeper Adrian has asserted his desire to stay at Anfield amid rumours linking the Spaniard to a move to the La Liga.

The player was signed by the Reds manager Jurgen Klopp on a free transfer from West Ham United last summer and was brought in to serve as the backup to world-class goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

The current season has seen Adrian make his mark in the Liverpool FC shirt through a string of impressive performances while standing between the sticks for the Merseyside club.

An injury suffered by Alisson against Norwich City FC in Reds opening Premier League fixture of this season last year ruled out the Brazilian goalkeeper for a long duration on the sidelines. However, Liverpool FC supporters did not sweat themselves as Adrian proved to be more than a capable backup for Alisson.

The Spanish goalkeeper has played in 18 competitive matches for the Reds this season. The 33-year old Adrian became a fan-favourite instantly due to his performance in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup final against Chelsea FC, where the goalkeeper saved the decisive penalty from the Blues striker Tammy Abraham to lead the Reds to 5-4 victory on penalties.

The 2019-20 season has seen Alisson suffer a series of injuries and suspension issues. Adrian also started the Reds  Champions League round of 16 tie against Atletico Madrid held at Anfield in March.

However, the Spanish keeper faced a lot of criticism from football analysis and the Reds supporters due to his shoddy performance in the match.

Two of his mistakes contributed towards Atletico’s goals which ultimately led to the Spanish side winning 3-2 at Anfield and progressing to the competition’s quarter-finals.

The former West Ham United keeper is contracted to the Reds until 2021 and has the option to extend his contract with the Premier League leaders further by a year.

Recent reports have indicated that a number of La Liga sides such as Real Betis are eager to sign the player. However, Adrian has insisted that he does not wish to depart Liverpool FC and is instead focusing only upon helping his side wrap up the Premier League title upon the league’s restart scheduled for next week.
