Aston Villa not open to Liverpool target John McGinn’s sale this summer

John McGinn’s sale could be roadblocked by Aston Villa this summer with Dean Smith’s side not open to parting ways with their star midfield man, claim reports from Express and Star.

The 26-year-old Scotland international is one of the new names on Jurgen Klopp’s shopping list for the ongoing summer window as the Liverpool boss scouts the transfer market for a new face to fill in at the centre of the park for the Merseysiders.

Gini Wijnaldum’s move to Paris Saint-Germain upon the expiry of his deal have left Liverpool an important man short in the midfield department and Klopp has been urged to use the transfer window to bring in a new signing to bolster his options.

However, considering Villa’s resistance to selling McGinn ahead of the next season’s start, it seems as if Klopp and Liverpool will be forced to look elsewhere for alternatives with Dean Smith keen to hold onto his player who has his contract at Villa Park until the summer of 2025.

McGinn had put pen to paper on a new improved deal at Villa Park only last December and despite the player believed to be open to a switch this summer, the club are unlikely to budge on their stance.
