Burnley join widely-contested race for Liverpool first-team outcast Ben Davies

Burnley have joined the widely-contested race for Liverpool first-team outcast Ben Davies who is tipped to leave the Anfield fold before the transfer window slams shut.

Davies spent the last season on loan at Sheffield United and following his return to the Liverpool camp this summer, the centre-back is linked with a move away with the likes of Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City credited with an interest.

The former Preston North End skipper, who is yet to make his debut outing in the colours of Liverpool, has found a new suitor in Vincent Kompany’s Burnley with the Turf Moor outfit mulling over opening talks to sign Davies, according to The Sun.

Scottish giants Rangers are also said to be right in the mix for the Liverpool man with Jurgen Klopp more than willing to cash in on the 26-year-old with the Reds boss not lacking a well-stocked defensive roster heading into the new season.

Joe Gomez has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract at Anfield with the England international hoping to earn his way back into the team sheet on a regular basis after last season’s limited first-team opportunities.
