Former England international Glen Johnson reckons Liverpool should prioritise signing two new midfielders in this summer’s transfer window.
Jurgen Klopp appears to be done bringing in fresh faces for his ranks this summer after landing three players in Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez and most recently, the 18-year-old right-back Calvin Ramsay.
With the Liverpool boss bolstering his squad across all departments, it is rumoured that Klopp’s priority will now be to trim down his ranks and part ways with a number of fringe first-teamers including the likes of Neco Williams and Nat Phillips.
Many believe that adding to his options in the centre of the park before the new season kicks off could prove to be of much importance to Liverpool and one among them is the ex-Liverpool and Chelsea defender Glen Johnson.
“Right now I’d go for Declan Rice.
“In a couple of year’s time, Jordan Henderson could do what Sadio Mane has done and leave, I think that Declan would fit that role perfectly.”
On Barella, Johnson said:
“I do think he would be a good addition. To score goals and grab assists isn’t easy, despite the fact he hasn’t done it in the Premier League.
“When somebody’s technically very good and can either score or assist a goal regularly, then you don’t expect them to struggle. The more players on the pitch that can help contribute towards a goal is good for the squad.”
