Joel Matip returns to training for Liverpool

Liverpool has received an injury boost with the return of Joel Matip to training ahead of Sunday’s game at Manchester United.

Goalkeeper Alisson who has been out of action since being forced off in the 39th minute of the 4-1 win over Norwich at Anfield on the opening day of the season is the other player to return to training.

Cameroon center-back Matip was injured in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Sheffield United on September 28 and missed their 4-3 Champions League win over Salzburg and the 2-1 Premier League win over Leicester City this month.

However, both took part in training at Melwood on Tuesday, with the Reds heading to Old Trafford on Sunday.

The 28-year-old, who has started six league matches so far, is likely to take his place alongside Dutchman Virgil van Dijk when they visit Manchester United on Sunday.

Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez have deputized in the center of defense in Matip’s absence but will make way for Matip who has impressed next to Van Dijk this season.

Matip signed a four-year pre-contract agreement to join Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer of 2016 which is now seen as a bargain.

Brazilian Alisson will most likely start in goal for Liverpool for the first time since the opening day of the Premier League.

The calf injury has seen summer signing Adrian deputize, with Jurgen Klopp’s side currently unbeaten in the league heading into the Old Trafford encounter.

Liverpool is yet to drop a point this season with their winning run in the Premier League standing at 17 games, building an eight-point cushion over defending champions Manchester City.

United, meanwhile, sit two points above the relegation zone in 12th after losing 1-0 away to Newcastle United last time out, a result that increased the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
