Jurgen Klopp admits Nat Phillips could leave before January 31 deadline

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp appeared to suggest that centre-back Nat Phillips could leave before the fast-approaching transfer window deadline on January 31.

The defender is far down the pecking order at Anfield and has been linked with a move elsewhere in search of regular game time as clubs across England remain keen on landing his signature midway through the season.

When quizzed upon Phillips’ future in his pre-match presser ahead of Liverpool locking horns with Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday, Klopp admitted that anything could happen in the final days of the transfer window.

“It depends on the offers.

“We have to be prepared for pretty much everything so we don’t know. The 31st is deadline day and we will see, I don’t know.”

There has been fresh speculation over Phillips staying put at Anfield beyond January after Liverpool’s decision to recall loanee centre-back Rhys Williams to the club from his season-long loan spell at Blackpool.

Williams made 17 outings during his time away from Liverpool but couldn’t help Blackpool out of the relegation zone in the Championship which led to Liverpool recalling him.
