Jurgen Klopp provides update on the fitness levels of Curtis Jones and Naby Keita

Jurgen Klopp provided an update on the fitness levels of Curtis Jones and Naby Keita following the duo’s absence from the last pre-season game at home against Strasbourg.

The midfield pairing were missing from the squad and could be in line to sit out this weekend’s opening Premier League fixture against the newly promoted Fulham, said Klopp to the club’s official website.

“Naby is ill, so no. Curtis, we have to see. [There] was no impact or whatever, so that always makes it a bit, ‘My god, what could it be?’

“We had no time; he felt it today and he wanted to play desperately, but then the medical department said no and that we needed to make further tests. We will do that tomorrow and then we will know more.”

Jones and Keita out on the sidelines would come as a major blow to Liverpool’s depleted midfield roster which has already lost Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to a hamstring injury which is expected to sideline him until October.

Liverpool, moreover, have sanctioned the exit of the highly rated youth product Tyler Morton who signed for Blackburn Rovers in a season-loan loan deal despite rumours of Liverpool rethinking their plans of shipping the teenager out.

Klopp has his first choice midfield options in the skipper Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara with the veteran James Milner also available to offer cover in the centre of the park.
