Injury Update

Klopp Provides Another Alisson Update ahead of the game against Newcastle United on Saturday

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has issued another update regarding his star goalkeeper Alisson Becker ahead of the game against Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Reds are currently sitting pretty at the summit of the Premier League table and are the only team with a 100 percent win record across all the four top divisions in English football. However, despite everything going well at Anfield, there is a bit of concern around star goalkeeper Alisson Becker’s injury.

The 26-year-old picked up an injury on the opening day of the new Premier League season against Norwich City after taking a goal kick. Reports later confirmed that it was a problem with his calf and ever since back up goalkeeper Adrian has been used to fill in between the sticks.

The Spaniard has done more than a decent job for Liverpool in goal but clearly Alisson will be back into the first team when he is back fit. The Brazilian arrived at Anfield from Serie A club AS Roma last summer transfer window in a £60 million deal and helped the Merseyside club to win the Champions League title.

Speaking on Alisson’s return date, Klopp was uncertain when the shot-stopper might return to action but admitted that he is making steady progress in light training sessions. The 52-year-old German spoke to reporters ahead of the Newcastle United clash and said, “Funnily enough, we had lunch together [just now]; he looks good and he is improving, but we cannot put any pressure on it. It was a really serious injury in the calf. It is now much better, of course, and that’s good for us and good for him, but we don’t know exactly [how long it will be]. The target was always after the next international break [that] he could be ready, but we don’t know. So, as I said, there is no pressure and hopefully, everything will be fine for the rest of the season, that’s the plan”
