Liverpool dealt major blow in pursuit of Dayot Upamecano

RB Leipzig wantaway defensive colossus Dayot Upamecano looks set to complete a move to Bayern Munich, dealing Liverpool FC a major blow in their pursuit for the in-demand Frenchman.

Jurgen Klopp’s side had been involved in the chase for the 22-year-old, according to earlier reports, as the Liverpool FC manager sought to add reinforcements to an injury-depleted backline at Anfield.

Season-ending layoffs for Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip had lured Klopp on joining the hunt for Upamecano, who had courted significant interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

According to claims from Sky Sports, it is the German giants who have leapfrogged others in the race to land Upamecano’ signature, with the France international expected to put pen to paper on a five-year-long deal with the UEFA Champions League holders.

The Merseyside Reds had acquired the services of Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies on deadline-day, the former of whom joined the Anfield outfit in an initial short-term loan deal and Klopp could be convinced on making that purchase a permanent one should the Turkish youngster step up and exhibit some much-needed confidence at the back for the misfiring Reds.
