Liverpool eyeing up Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino as Jude Bellingham alternative

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing up a move for Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino as Jude Bellingham’s alternative for the next summer’s transfer window.

Bellingham is rumoured to be one of the top names on the wishlist for the Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp but Borussia Dortmund are not likely to sanction the sale of the 18-year-old talent barring a huge fee coming their way.

Jurgen Klopp has been on the hunt for a fresh face to bolster his midfield roster after the exit of the long-serving Gini Wijnaldum this summer with the Dutchman not signing on a new deal on Merseyside over his wage demands.

Reports from Spanish news outlet Fichajes have suggested that Dortmund’s reluctance on parting ways with Bellingham could force Liverpool to identify Real Sociedad midfield man Mikel Merino as a viable target.

The likes of Harvy Elliott, Curtis Jones and Thiago Alcantara have often been on the injury list at Anfield early on this new season which will further convince Klopp to bring in a new signing sooner rather than later.
