Liverpool hoping to retain young centre-back Sepp van den Berg

Liverpool are reportedly looking to retain their young centre-back Sepp van den Berg beyond the summer transfer window amid the injury crisis in the club’s defensive ranks.

Ibrahima Konate was on the injury list at Anfield before the new season got underway and Joel Matip was also deemed an injury concern ahead of the recent draw against Crystal Palace for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

According to a report from The Daily Mail, it is claimed that Liverpool’s wantaway defensive starlet Van den Berg could be in line to stay put on Merseyside to provide cover in the centre-back role.

Blackburn Rovers, Burnley, Sheffield United, and Watford have all been credited with a strong interest in moving in for the 20-year-old and landing his services on a season-loan loan deal that would not be in Liverpool’s best interests right now.

Liverpool had earlier made a U-turn over their decision to send Nat Phillips on a loan transfer with the 25-year-old being utilized by Klopp in the Palace draw with Joel Matip on the sidelines with a groin issue.
