Liverpool ready to part ways with centre-back Rhys Williams permanently this summer

Liverpool are understood to be ready to part ways with fringe first team defender Rhys Williams permanently this coming summer, according to a report from Football Insider.

The young centre-back spent the first half of the season on loan at Blackpool but was recalled earlier this year amid speculation over his future at Anfield beyond the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

The 22-year-old is not seen as a part of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans with the Liverpool manager having the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate to call upon as his centre-back options.

Williams penned a new deal with Liverpool back in 2021 which runs until June 2026 and the Reds would be hoping to pocket a sizable fee from his move elsewhere in the summer transfer window later this year.

Another centre-back who could be leaving Liverpool soon is the long serving Joel Matip whose inconsistent form this season has put question marks over his future with the Merseysiders who remain on the search for another defensive signing.
