Liverpool set to confirm purchase of Ibrahima Konate on a five-year deal

Ibrahima Konate is set to switch colours from RB Leipzig to Liverpool FC with the latter having reportedly agreed upon a five-year-long deal for the France international who has been a long-term target for Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Fabrizio Romano has almost given his famous tagline “here we go” to the Konate transfer which is believed to be costing the Merseyside giants a fee in the region of €35 million which was Konate’s release clause following which the centre-back will agree upon personal terms.

With the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all sidelined with season-ending injury layoffs this season for the Reds and doubts remaining over their availability in time for the commencement of the 2021-22 campaign, an under-fire Liverpool FC outfit were tipped to bolster their defensive ranks in the summer.

Moreover, Nat Phillips who has been a crucial component of the Reds first-team setup since the turn of the year has sustained a hamstring issue which has not allowed the 23-year-old to partake in their last two outings forcing Klopp to draft Fabinho in the makeshift role alongside Kabak.

Ozan Kabak’s future stay in the Liverpool FC shirt beyond the upcoming summer remains to be ascertained despite reports claiming that Jurgen Klopp was tempted to trigger the buy-out clause worth £18 million to keep the young Turk on Merseyside in a permanent arrangement.
