Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk set to be sidelined due to a hamstring injury

Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk is likely to be sidelined due to a hamstring injury with the defender certain to miss out on the upcoming FA Cup game with Wolves.

The Dutch centre-back was substituted at the break in Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford earlier in the week with Jurgen Klopp saying that Van Dijk being brought off was merely a precaution.

According to a report from Goal, however, the former Southampton man’s injury is worse than first feared with no time frame for his return expected to be sounded ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup outing on home soil against Wolves this Saturday.

It is said that Van Dijk is also a doubt for Liverpool’s next Premier League game, away at Brighton, in a major blow to Jurgen Klopp’s side who have lacked their usual consistency in form over the course of the season.

Injuries too have played spoilsport to Liverpool’s campaign with the Reds losing key duo Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota for the major chunk of this term with both player expected to return only later in the campaign.
