Liverpool edged out Brighton 1-0 at Anfield courtesy a Salah goal midway through the first half. The scoreline isn’t a proper representation of the match though. Liverpool had complete dominance over the match and were always more likely to score the second goal.
Brighton had one proper chance throughout when Pascal Gross tested Alisson with a close range header in the 88th minute. However, they could have equalised as early as the 47th minute when a sloppy pass from Naby Keita gave a chance to Glenn Murray to run in behind the defence. However, the cutback for Anthony Knockaert didn’t land for him and the shot was wide eventually.
Liverpool had waves of attacks but couldn’t find the final pass every time as the cross/pass didn’t reach the intended target in the final third.
Defensively it was a very reassured performance. Liverpool are yet to concede in the Premier League with three clean sheets out of three. Alisson would be more than pleased with this. He had certain nervous moments in this match however, when Murray pressed him. He got away with one when he held on to the ball for a bit too long and Murray caught up with him from behind.
The goal came through a quick passage of play when Firmino headed the charge. He found Salah on his outside and Salah finished emphatically into the far corner. Matt Ryan had no chance of dealing with it whatsoever.
Liverpool started the barrage on Brighton soon after kick off when a free kick from Trent Alexander Arnold crashed into the crossbar. It was unlucky for the young right back but it gave a sign of things to come.
Matt Ryan did well to save two headers from Firmino and Wijnaldum and kept Brighton in the contest. It was of no avail in the end as Brighton could not build on their previous win over Manchester United.
