Lyon join the race to sign Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri this summer

Ligue 1 outfit Lyon have joined long-term suitors Lazio in the chase for Liverpool’s in-demand wide man Xherdan Shaqiri in this summer’s transfer window, according to reports from The Athletic.

Shaqiri has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield before the transfer window slams shut and Serie A bigwigs Lazio have been considered the frontrunners to land his signature from Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are persistent on a £12 million valuation for parting ways with the 29-year-old Swiss international this summer but Lyon are understood to have some concerns on the pricing front.

It is believed that Lyon are currently a long shot away from meeting Liverpool’s asking price for Shaqiri who despite his dwindling career on Merseyside, was an inspiring presence for his national side at the UEFA European Championships which made Lazio take note of his transfer situation.

The Italian club are credited with a strong interest in signing the former Stoke City man whose exit from Anfield could help Jurgen Klopp make some much-needed moves in the transfer market ahead of the start of the new season.
