Massive injury boost for Liverpool as Joel Matip spotted in training

Joel Matip has made an unexpected return to the training pitch at the Kirkby complex for Liverpool FC despite the central defender being labelled as a season-long injury absentee.

The Cameroonian international has been sidelined with an ankle ligament injury since the backend of January which forced Jurgen Klopp to dip into the transfer market and bring in Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies on deadline day.

Matip snapped in training ahead of the Manchester United clash

As the under-fire Liverpool FC outfit gear up to face arch-rivals Manchester United this weekend in Premier League action, the 29-year-old Matip was spotted running while the rest of the first-team squad took part in regular training as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

Such a series of events could mean a much faster return to the fold at Anfield for Matip despite there being no confirmation whether the player would feature again in what remains of the 2020-21 season.

Liverpool still keen on signing defensive talents this summer

With the Reds reeling in a host of injury issues over the course of this campaign it is reported that the boss Jurgen Klopp is eager on bringing in additional reinforcements in the summer with RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate being the priority target.

It also remains to be seen whether the club would decide against triggering the on-loan Ozan Kabak’s buy-out clause with the young Turkish defender establishing himself to be a regular starter since his arrival in January.
