Injury Update

Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota remain unavailable for selection for Leeds clash

Liverpool forwards Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota remain unavailable for selection for the forthcoming Premier League clash against Leeds United.

Jurgen Klopp’s men welcome the under-fire Elland Road outfit to Anfield on Wednesday night but the home side would be forced to make do without two of their attacking dangermen in Firmino and Jota.

Both players had been sidelined for the weekend win over Norwich City with Jota, following the ankle niggle he sustained in the Champions League tie against Inter Milan, joined by Firmino who is recovering from a muscle issue.

In the duo’s absence, Klopp had given a run out to his new recruit Luis Diaz for his second league outing in the Liverpool colours with the Columbian joining Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in the final third of the pitch.

Speaking to reporters in his pre-match presser conference ahead of the midweek game, the Liverpool boss sounded out concern for Firmino and Jota with their fitness set to be assessed further in the build to Carabao Cup final against Chelsea.

“No, for tomorrow, no chance, and then [for] the final we will see. I don’t know in the moment.”

“It would be easy to say now ‘no’, but we will see. They are [pushing] but they were not on the pitch for training [yet] so that’s not a good sign.

“We have to see what we can do with the boys in the next few days and then we make a decision later in the week.”
