The Reds remain in pole position to sign Timo Werner

Liverpool FC remains in pole position to sign Timo Werner, despite recent reports suggesting that the Reds had cooled down their interest in the German striker due to the club’s board unwilling to pay an amount in the region of £52m to sign the player.

Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp has not given up hope on signing Werner, and the German coach is believed to have told the Reds board that Werner would be a perfect signing for the squad. Several media outlets had recently reported that The Reds could be priced out of a deal for Werner, with the player’s club RB Leipzig setting Werner’s release clause at 52m.

The impending Premier League champions Liverpool FC seemed to had withdrawn their interest in a summer transfer for Werner, with the financial aspect of the coronavirus pandemic playing a significant part in the club’s decision to curb spending in the upcoming transfer window. But, with Werner setting his heart on the move to Liverpool FC and playing under Klopp’s guidance, the Reds have received a considerable boost in the race to sign the highly-rated forward. Moreover, the Merseyside club has been told that Werner will wait for an official decision from The Reds before deciding a future club for himself.

Werner’s current release clause, which is valued at 52m, runs until 15th June. After that date, any club interested in signing the German would have to negotiate the deal with Werner’s parent club RB Leipzig. A host of other European clubs have been believed to be interested in securing Werner’s signing, such as Manchester United FC and Serie A giants Inter Milan. The player’s superb performances this Bundesliga season has led to several teams eyeing his signature in the summer.

Inter Milan president Piero Ausilio recently spoke about the Italian club signing Werner in the summer, with him stating that such a scenario would be near to impossible considering the German’s reluctance to move to Italy. Werner deeply desires a move to the Premier League and Liverpool FC, whom he had praised many times during the past and voiced his desire to play for the Reds.
