Wataru Endo Silencing The Doubters By Building A Solid Base At Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Watru Endo’s rise at Anfield has been unexpected yet magical in all its senses. Did anyone imagine the club signing a 31-year-old not-so-known player who can fill the huge void left by Jordan Henderson and Fabinho?

Such was the desperacy within the Reds’ squad, that they needed an experienced player to command their midfield region. Jurgen Klopp’s side were thrown behind in the race to sign Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

Many believed that they could join the club, but it never happened. The club’s midfield was a stable one, but soon turned out to be a problem that needed solutions.

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner’s departure made the club realise that they need an urgent rebuild to save their season.

Klopp and his team were calm as always and they landed Argentinian World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister last summer. Then came Dominik Szoboszlai with a huge price tag on his head.

Both players have been a proper workhorse for Liverpool. They have been a hit since they joined the club. However, the defensive midfield position was crying for help.

Out of several targets that they had on their wish list, the Reds preferred to sign Endo from Stuttgart for £16 million. Questions were raised as many thought that this was an emergency signing and the Asian was just a stopgap in the club’s plans.

But will they ask the same questions now? We don’t think so. Endo has been a dynamic, energetic and very clever player for Liverpool.

His performance against Manchester City proved to be the ultimate epitome of a top-quality player who was waiting to fly.

Klopp has used him regularly due to his relentless pressing and strong work ethic. Even if Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones are waiting to pounce on his place, he held on to the starting XI spot.

There is no reason to leave him out unless and until there is a major injury scare. Endo needs to be rewarded and a Premier League title will be the sweetest honour for him.

Liverpool have hardly made a wrong move in the transfer market. Signing the former Bundesliga veteran proved that they never give up, even if they are losing their key targets.

The Reds always have backups, and these backups turn out to be better than the ones they wanted to sign before.
